What is Root Canal Therapy?

Persistent tooth pain is often a sign of untreated tooth decay. In early stages, cavities only affect the enamel or outer layer of the tooth. Those with minimal decay can receive a composite filling to restore protect the tooth. Root canal therapy is required when decay reaches the inner portion of the tooth, causing the pulp to become infected.

The infection of a tooth can spread to surrounding teeth and throughout the body, creating more significant health issues.

Therapeutic Results of Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal therapy is the typical treatment for relief of toothaches but provides other benefits as well. By removing the infected pulp, tooth structure is retained, and normal function is restored. This helps prevent further complication such as tooth loss.

With the gentle care of Dr. Lai, root canal therapy is a minimally invasive procedure despite its reputation. We create a small opening in the top of the tooth and place small dental files in the chambers to remove the infected pulp. After disinfecting the tooth chamber, a substance called gutta percha is placed to seal the inside of the tooth. We provide a temporary crown to protect the treated tooth while your custom-crafted permanent restoration is fabricated.

We complete treatment by securing the crown over the tooth, providing stability and protection. We ensure a proper fit so you can experience a uniform and fully functioning smile. Most patients recuperate within a day after root canal therapy.
